I use AmblesideOnline in our homeschool, and I appreciate the chart-format schedules that are provided for each year . Before I use those schedules, though, I modify them to make them work for our family . Here are some samples of a shortened version of my edited schedules for a few different years to give you an idea of what these look like. (The samples show only a few weeks of each term so as not to violate AmblesideOnline's license by reproducing the schedules on another site.) If you are planning to do a kindergarten year with a five-year-old, I hope you’ll study up first on CM’s recommendations so you can plan a wonderful K year that meets your goals in a CM-friendly way. I don’t say this because I think there’s some rule that says we all must follow CM’s recommendations but because I have always found her recommendations to be wise and useful, and I am sure that these (related to the years before formal school begins at age 6 or later) are also wise and useful and so are worth keeping in mind. I welcome your comments as I revise it.] "A Formidable List of Attainments for a Child of Six" is described as a reprint of a curriculum outline from a CM school in the 1890′s; it was printed in the Summer 1993 Parents Review published by Karen Andreola. Here is the list : "To recite, beautifully, six easy poems and hymns. To recite, perfectly and beautifully, a parable and a psalm. To add and subtract numbers up to ten, with dominoes or counters. To read-what, and how much, will depend on what we are told of the child; children vary much in their power of reading. To copy in print-hand from a book. How I Scheduled Year 7

I am creating my version of AO's chart schedule for the first term of Year 7. Bear in mind that of course what works for me may not be what works for you, ditto for my child and your child, and that my process varies somewhat from term to term and year to year. I school four days a week because one day a week is spent at the park and at band, so that may be different from how you schedule too. *** My section labels in these schedules are fairly arbitrary. I don't really care if the label matches the section's contents. I downloaded the chart schedule in the .doc format from the AmblesideOnline Year 7 Detailed schedule page . (The Basic schedule page probably looks much different. Starting in Year 7, the Basic schedule includes fewer assignments spread over a longer period of time and sometimes even schedules different resources than the Detailed schedule.)
